Arnaud Mortet
Overview
Arnaud Mortet is the son of the late Denis Mortet, one of Gevrey-Chambertin’s most celebrated (and contested) producers. After his father’s tragic death in 2006, Arnaud took over the estate and has steered it toward greater restraint and elegance compared to the extracted, concentrated style his father was known for. The evolution has been well-received. The domaine holds premier crus in Gevrey including Champeaux, Lavaut Saint-Jacques, and Bel Air.

Style Notes
Post-Arnaud evolution: less extraction, more transparency, more finesse. The wines show dark cherry, earth, and spice with firm but refined tannins. The transition away from the Denis Mortet “blockbuster” style is ongoing — recent vintages are the most elegant from the estate.
2023 Vintage Notes
Visited January 2025. Full range produced in the generous 2023 vintage. Premier crus (Champeaux, Lavaut Saint-Jacques) and village wines showed the vintage’s characteristic richness combined with Arnaud’s evolving style of refined elegance.
