Cantine Rizzi

Overview

Cantine Rizzi is a classical Barbaresco estate run by Enrico Dellapiana, based in Treiso — one of the three communes of the Barbaresco DOCG. The estate produces traditionally-styled Barbaresco from multiple crus, with the Pajorè bottling (from old vines) as their flagship. Gilman praises the 2021 Pajorè highly. The estate is under the radar relative to Gaja and Angelo Gaja, but represents outstanding quality at a more accessible price point.

Appellations

  • Barbaresco — Treiso commune; crus: Nervo, Pajorè

Key Wines

Barbaresco “Pajorè”

Old vine cru bottling from the Pajorè vineyard in Treiso. Classical style.

  • 2021: 94 (2043–2100) — “outstanding young Barbaresco”; old vine concentration meets 2021’s classic structure

Barbaresco “Nervo”

Classic, traditionally-styled bottling.

  • 2021: 92 (2038–2095) — “beautiful and classically styled”; excellent

Style Notes

Traditional approach: extended maceration, large Slavonian oak, long aging requirements. The Pajorè cru from Treiso shows more earthy, mineral character than the more perfumed Barbaresco-township wines. Treiso soils tend to produce wines with more structure and minerality.
