2023 Vintage Notes (VFTC #115)
Visited late January 2025 (fifth tasting of the day). Jean-Luc and Eric Burguet have separated; Jean-Luc now solely responsible. New labels but domaine name unchanged. Despite the family’s preference for later picking, harvest began September 17th with 12.8–13.5% alcohol. Several new cuvees: Gevrey “Combe de Lavaux” (65-year-old vines below Lavaux St. Jacques), and Echezeaux from purchased grapes (two casks — hoping to continue in 2025). The Clos de Beze contract (purchased fruit) ended in 2020/2021. “A superb vintage chez Burguet.”
2023 Scores:
- Echezeaux: 95 pts (2040–2090) — new cuvee; “a star in the cellars”; only 50 cases; “first class juice!”
- Lavaux St. Jacques: 94 pts (2037–2080) — “simply outstanding”; superb sappy, red fruity
- Champeaux: 93 pts (2035–2075) — red fruity; beautifully sappy
- Vosne-Romanee “Rouge Dessus”: 93 pts (2035–2070) — 20th vintage of this cuvee; nicely red fruity
- Combe de Lavaux (new): 92+ pts (2033–2070) — “a fine new thoroughbred”; more soil transparency than Mes Favorites
- Mes Favorites: 92+ pts (2035–2075+) — “right in its sweet spot” in 2023
- Cuvee Symphonie: 90+ pts (2031–2060) — black fruity camp
- Bourgogne Rouge: 88 pts (2027–2040)
2024 and 2023 Vintage Notes (Burghound #101)
Jean-Luc Burguet (Eric has left; Jean-Luc bought out his share). On 2024: “seriously complicated from the very beginning.” Picked very late (September 27). Yields off ~50%. Potential alcohols 12.7-13%, no chaptalization. No whole clusters. No Echézeaux in 2024 (lost fruit availability); Clos de Bèze contract also lost. Meadows: “Burguet has every right to be proud of his 2024s as they are indeed very good.”
2024 Scores (barrel):
- Gevrey “Lavaut St. Jacques” 1er: (91-93) — “good punch” on the “firm, stony and powerful finish”
- Gevrey “Champeaux” 1er: (90-93) — “utterly delicious and beautifully delineated”
- Vosne-Romanée “Les Rouges du Dessus” 1er: (90-93) — “excellent detail”
- Gevrey “Combe de Lavaut”: (88-91) — “textbook Combe de Lavaut”
- Gevrey Mes Favorites: (88-91) — 18 parcels; ~75 year old vines
- Gevrey Symphonie: (87-90) — younger vines, eastern side
- Bourgogne – Cuvée Le Pince Vin: (86-89)
2023 Scores (bottle):
- Gevrey Mes Favorites: 90
- Gevrey “Combe de Lavaut”: 89
- Gevrey Symphonie: 88
2022 Score (bottle):
- Gevrey Symphonie: 90
