Domaine Albert Morot

Overview

An iconic 8 ha Beaune domaine, recently sold by Geoffroy Choppin de Janvry to the Parisian family group of Guillaume et Sophie Poitrinal. New regisseur is Pierre-Jean Villa (of Domaine Decelle-Villa and a small Rhone negoce). Major renovations and changes underway: facilities completely renovated, new wood reduced from 30% to max 15%, whole clusters now used (30–60%), and new vineyard acquisitions in Bourgogne Cote d’Or (pinot), Auxey-Duresses (chardonnay), and Meursault (Vireuils, Narvaux). A small negoce activity (~2.5 ha equivalent) is planned.

Appellations

  • Beaune 1er Cru: Teurons, Bressandes, Greves, Aigrots, Marconnets
  • Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru: La Bataillere aux Vergelesses (monopole)
  • Bourgogne Cote d’Or (new)
  • Meursault: Vireuils, Narvaux (new, from 2024)

Key Wines

  • Beaune “Teurons” 1er — (90-93) in 2024; “lovely and worth checking out”
  • Beaune “Bressandes” 1er — (90-92) in 2024
  • Savigny “La Bataillere aux Vergelesses” 1er (monopole) — (90-92) in 2024

Style Notes

Under new ownership and Villa’s direction, the domaine is transitioning to a more modern approach while retaining classical Beaune character. The reduction in new oak, introduction of whole cluster, and new vineyard additions signal ambitious quality goals. A domaine to watch closely.
