Domaine Bruno Bienaimé
Overview
Domaine Bruno Bienaimé is based in the Côtes du Jura appellation. Bruno Bienaimé spent most of his early career working with Vincent Laval at Champagne Laval in the warm Champagne village of Cumières before decamping to start his own domaine in the Jura. Gilman notes he “clearly learned a lot about making elegant wines during his time working alongside Monsieur Laval.” All wines shown in VFTC #111 were non-oxidative (Ouillé) for whites.
Appellations
- Jura — Côtes du Jura
Key Wines
- Savagnin (2022) — Ouillé style; brilliant, precise, beautiful; 12.5% ABV; scored 94 (“truly beautiful wine”)
- Trousseau (2022, from magnum) — dark berries, gamebird, bonfire, violets; needs 10+ years; scored 92+
- Trousseau (2018) — still slightly tannic; dried cherries, savory elements; needs a bit more; scored 92
- Pinot Noir (2022, from magnum) — sappy, expressive; firm tannins from spring frosts; scored 92+
Style Notes
Elegant, mineral, restrained — a clear reflection of the Champagne-influenced winemaking sensibility. The Savagnin in particular is outstanding: no oxidation, just lime, lemon, beeswax, bergamot, and fine soil. Trousseau shows remarkable structure and aging potential.
