Domaine de la Pousse d’Or

Overview

Domaine de la Pousse d’Or is a 17.4 ha estate based in Volnay, directed by Benoit Landanger. The domaine holds monopoles in Volnay including the famous Clos de la Bousse d’Or, Clos l’Audignac, and the legendary Caillerets Clos des 60 Ouvrees — considered one of Volnay’s greatest vineyards. The estate also holds significant parcels in Chambolle-Musigny (including Amoureuses), Pommard (Jarolieres), and grand crus (Bonnes Mares, Clos de la Roche, Charmes-Chambertin, Corton-Bressandes, Corton-Clos du Roi). The domaine recently stopped using amphorae for elevage.

Style Notes

The Pousse d’Or wines under Landanger emphasize finesse and terroir transparency. The Volnay monopoles are the heart of the domaine. The domaine recently abandoned amphora aging and acquired a small parcel of Vosne-Romanee “La Colombiere” (first vintage 2025).

2024 Vintage Notes (Burghound #102)

Tasting conducted with Stephanie Savin (Landanger away). Picked Sept 19–23; a lot of sorting required. Average yields 18 hl/ha (variable). Cote de Beaune slightly better than Cote de Nuits. Cuvaison ~3 weeks. “Some really lovely wines in the range, particularly among the domaine’s range of Volnay 1ers.” Reds bottled January 2026. Meadows notes the domaine’s two 2024 whites are “both outstanding.”

2024 Scores (bottled):

  • Clos de la Roche: 93 — “exuberantly floral”; better mid-palate density; mineral-driven; “a wine to buy and forget you own it for at least a decade”
  • Charmes-Chambertin (from Mazoyeres): 93 — “a Charmes of finesse and understatement”; ultra-fresh
  • Corton-Bressandes: 93 — “I very much like the texture”; bigger-bodied, energetic; “should easily reward extended keeping of a decade or more”
  • Corton-Clos du Roi: 93 — super-sleek, painfully intense; bracing minerality; “good stuff with the development potential to match”
  • Volnay “Clos de la Bousse d’Or”: 92 — “textbook Bousse d’Or”; innate class evident; “one to consider”
  • Volnay “En Caillerets”: 91 — lovely; mineral; understated
  • Volnay “Caillerets - Clos des 60 Ouvrees”: 91 — beguiling tension; “mouthfeel is akin to rolling rocks around the palate”; Bousse d’Or has slight edge in 2024
  • Volnay “Clos l’Audignac”: 91 — super-sleek; palpable minerality; more Pommard-like than Volnay
  • Pommard “Les Jarolieres”: 91 — beguiling tension; tautly muscular; needs 8–10 years
  • Bonnes Mares: 91 — “a Bonnes Mares of finesse, which is not usually the case”
  • Gevrey “La Perriere” 1er: 91 — excellent delineation; could be approached after ~5 years
  • Echezeaux (from Poulaillieres): 91 — refined, almost delicate; pretty
  • Santenay “Clos des Tavannes”: 89 — fresh, bright
  • Chambolle “Les Groseilles”: 89 — pretty but austerity may be too much for some
  • Chambolle “Les Amoureuses”: 89 — “undeniably both pretty and classy, but the balance isn’t perfect”
  • Chambolle-Musigny (villages): 88
  • Chambolle “Les Charmes”: 88 — a bit skinny
