Style Notes
Croix privileges “purity and balance rather than extraction.” Uses 30–45% whole clusters for some wines. Wines are energetic, transparent, and should be approachable young while aging well over the mid-term.
2024 Vintage Notes (Burghound #102)
Croix: “probably the hardest and most trying of my career, not only physically but also from a morale perspective.” 14 treatments against mildew. Picked Sept 14–20. Average yields 25 hl/ha (~30 in Beaune, ~10 on Hill of Corton). Potential alcohols 12–12.5%. Corton vineyards combined into one cuvee; no Savigny “Les Peuillets.”
2024 Scores (mixed barrel/bottle):
- Beaune “Greves” 1er (45% whole cluster): 91 — “old school Greves”; very good volume; “going to need at least a few years”
- Beaune “Bressandes” 1er: (90-92) — reduced; attractive texture; built for mid-term
- Beaune “Pertuisots” 1er (40% whole cluster): (90-92) — excellent freshness; compact, powerful
- Beaune “Tuvilains” 1er (80+ year old vines): 90 — succulent, more concentrated; usual Tuvilains rusticity
- Beaune “Cents Vignes” 1er: 89 — delicate; subtle minerality
- Corton (Greves + Vigne au Saint): (89-92) — reduced; larger-bodied; pronounced austerity
- Beaune (villages): 87 — “already drinking well”
