Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes

Overview

Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes is a premier Morgon estate in Beaujolais, producing multiple single vineyard bottlings from across the appellation including from the storied Côte du Py terroir. The domaine produces five named cuvées: “la Voûte Saint-Vincent,” “Javernières,” “Château Gaillard” (first vintage 2020), “Montpelain” (85+yo vines), and “aux Pierres Javernières” (93yo vines; raised in concrete egg). John Gilman has reviewed all five in VFTC #116, finding 2023 to be an outstanding year across the range.

Style Notes

The Desvignes wines are classic Morgon: deep, structured, black fruity, soil-driven. The domaine emphasizes terroir differentiation across its five single vineyard cuvées. The oldest vines — aux Pierres Javernières (93yo) and Montpelain (85+yo) — deliver the most complexity and longevity. “Château Gaillard,” the newest cuvée, has improved with each vintage. The wines generally need 7–12 years of cellaring.
