Domaine Manuel Olivier

Overview

A Nuits-St-Georges domaine producing both villages Nuits and Vosne-Romanée wines. Gilman (VFTC #114) tasted the 2020 vintage with great enthusiasm, noting “an old-fashioned sense of style I find immensely attractive” in the villages bottlings. He particularly calls out the Vosne-Romanée “les Damaudes” as showing “quite a bit of Échézeaux character.” 18 months élevage in cask noted for at least the Vosne.

Appellations

Key Wines

  • Vosne-Romanée “les Damaudes” — 40-year-old vines; 18 months élevage; 2020: 91 pts
  • Nuits-St-Georges villages — 2020: 91 pts; classic style

Style Notes

Old-fashioned, classically structured Nuits style with earthy, mineral-driven character. The Vosne “les Damaudes” shows an elevated personality with Échézeaux-like spice and complexity. Gilman: “cannot wait to taste more examples from Monsieur Olivier, as this is a top flight villages bottling of Nuits!“
