Fratelli Brovia

Overview

Fratelli Brovia is one of the great traditional Barolo estates, based in Castiglione Falletto. The family has been making Barolo since 1863. Today the estate is run by Elena and Cristina Brovia with winemaker Alex Sanchez. The style is resolutely traditional: long maceration, large Slavonian oak casks, wines that require 10–20+ years of cellaring. Holdings include some of the finest crus in the Langhe: Rocche di Castiglione (Castiglione Falletto), Villero (Castiglione Falletto), Ca’ Mia (Barolo village), and Brea Vigna Ca’ Mia.

Style Notes

Traditional Barolo: dried roses, tar, iron, tobacco, and dark cherry — the classic Nebbiolo descriptor “tar and roses” at its most literal. The Rocche di Castiglione is considered among the finest Barolo crus. Extended aging required: minimum 8–10 years from vintage; peak often 15–25 years out.
