Louis Boillot et Fils
Overview
Louis Boillot et Fils (now Louis and his son Clément Boillot) is one of the finest producers in Moulin-à-Vent, producing eight single vineyard cuvées from old vines across the appellation, plus a single Fleurie (“Grillé-Midi”). Louis Boillot is primarily known as a Burgundy producer based in Chambolle-Musigny, but his Beaujolais work is outstanding and represents some of the most serious, terroir-driven winemaking in the region. John Gilman considers the 2023 collection among the finest Moulin-à-Vent bottlings he has reviewed, with “la Rochelle” earning 95 points — among the highest scores in the entire Beaujolais section of VFTC #116.
The single vineyard lineup includes: Vieilles Vignes, les Rouchaux, les Thorins, les Brussellions, Champs du Coeur, Plantiers de Favre, Haute Cave (new in 2023), and la Rochelle.

Style Notes
Louis Boillot makes wines in a traditional Beaujolais style — semi-carbonic or whole cluster fermentation, neutral/no oak. The wines are soil-driven and precise, with excellent mineral transparency. Old vines are the key: most parcels are 55–75 years of age, and the Plantiers de Favre vines are 60 years old. These are not light, early-drinking Beaujolais — they are structured, serious wines that demand 5–10 years of cellaring for the Moulin-à-Vent examples.
