Reverdito

Overview

Michele Reverdito is a La Morra-based traditional Barolo estate producing wines from several Serralunga and La Morra crus, as well as a wide range of Langhe varieties. The estate’s philosophy is firmly old-school: traditional botti aging, native yeasts, extended aging requirements. VFTC #117 covers the Barolo “Badarina” 2017 (94 points), plus Barbera, Nebbiolo delle Langhe, Pelaverga, and the rare Nascetta white — giving one of the most complete pictures of any estate in the Italian section.

Appellations

  • Barolo — “Badarina” (Serralunga d’Alba; first bottled on its own from the 2000 vintage)
  • Nebbiolo delle Langhe (“Simane”)
  • Barbera d’Alba
  • Verduno Pelaverga
  • Langhe Nascetta (white)

Key Wines

  • Barolo “Badarina” — Serralunga cru, high altitude; red-fruited, camphor, roses, classic profile; 94 points 2017 (2042–2100)
  • Nebbiolo delle Langhe “Simane” — traditional botti; 91 points 2022 (2033–2060)
  • Barbera d’Alba — 90 points 2022; bright, tangy, very good
  • Verduno Pelaverga — raised in clay amphorae; strawberries, roses, botanicals; 91 points 2023 (2025–2045)
  • Nascetta — indigenous Langhe white grape; extremely rare; nearly extinct after phylloxera; Reverdito one of only a handful reviving it; 92 points 2023; unique, complex, bitter finish that works beautifully with food

Style Notes

Old-school La Morra/Serralunga estate with a diverse portfolio of Langhe varieties. The Barolo Badarina, from a high Serralunga hillside, is described as “first class, old school Barolo” that needs substantial cellaring. The Nascetta is an unusual specialty — perhaps the rarest wine in the lineup; Gilman describes it as “a completely unique white wine grape” that “produces a lovely wine.”
