Henri Boillot

Overview

“Henri Boillot” is the négociant label operated by Guillaume Boillot, separate from Domaine Henri Boillot (the estate). The négociant purchases grapes or juice across a wide range of appellations, producing high-quality wines at multiple levels. Particularly strong in white Burgundy: Meursault, Puligny-Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne, and Bourgogne Blanc. Also red: Bonnes Mares, Clos Vougeot, Latricières-Chambertin, and Échézeaux grand crus.

Consumption Notes

  • Meursault 2019 (Aug 2021): “Petrol lemon curd. Good stuff. Drank on the beach with Brooke.” — very positive
  • Bourgogne 2018 (Oct 2020): “This was great!”

Style Notes

The négociant wines mirror the estate’s house style: clean, mineral, restrained. Exceptional value at the Bourgogne Blanc level. Grand crus show the breadth of the négociant range.

2023 Vintage Notes

Visited January 2025. Full négociant range produced in the generous 2023 vintage. White Burgundy across Meursault, Puligny, and grand crus all produced. The 2023s showed the vintage’s characteristic richness combined with the négociant’s mineral house style.

2022 Vintage Notes (VFTC #114)

Older bottle notes from Gilman’s tasting in 2024:

  • 2001 Bonnes-Mares: 89 pts (2030–2070+) — “good, solid example of Bonnes-Mares, but not top division; lacks vibrancy and transparency; charmless in personality right now. If it brightens up as it reaches its plateau, score will seem conservative.” (Gilman unsure if Boillot purchased grapes, vinified himself, or purchased wine and did élevage/bottling.)
  • 2001 Mazis-Chambertin “Cuvée Madeleine Collignon” (Hospices de Beaune): 92+ pts (2030–2075) — raised in 100% new oak at Hospices before racking; spicy new oak but nicely integrated today; “fine potential; still in climbing mode”

Also: 1980 Pommard “Rugiens” (from Domaine Henri Boillot): 89 pts (2024–2030+?) — “fully mature for decades; starting to creep towards far side of its plateau; lovely in its fragility; structural elements beginning to give up the ghost”

2024 Vintage Notes (Burghound #102)

See Domaine Henri Boillot for detailed 2024 vintage comments. Boillot has been responsible for all vineyard work and harvest for the negociant’s Bonnes Mares, Chambertin, and Clos de Vougeot since 2007. No Clos de Vougeot or Clos de Beze produced in 2024 due to exceptionally tiny yields.

Maison 2024 Scores (bottled):

  • Chambertin: 93 — “wonderfully floral-suffused nose”; chiseled, bracing minerality; only a half barrel made; “not particularly concentrated but unusually fine”; “should richly reward extended keeping”
  • Bonnes Mares (from both Chambolle and Morey fruit): 91 — good detail; focused power; “needs more depth so at least some cellaring is in order”
