Morey-St-Denis

Overview

Morey-St-Denis sits between Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny and blends characteristics of both: it can show the power of Gevrey and the perfume of Chambolle, depending on the vineyard and producer. Five grand crus lie within its borders (Clos St-Denis, Clos de la Roche, Clos des Lambrays, Clos de Tart, and the southern half of Bonnes-Mares). Historically underrated between its famous neighbors, it is now recognized as exceptional.

Key Producers

Grand Crus

  • Clos de la Roche — largest and most powerful; long-aging
  • Clos St-Denis — elegant, more aromatic
  • Clos des Lambrays — monopole (LVMH); opulent
  • Clos de Tart — monopole (Pinault); structured and complex
  • Bonnes-Mares (southern portion) — shared with Chambolle-Musigny

Premier Crus (highlights)

Les Monts Luisants (also produced as white Chardonnay by some estates), Les Ruchots, Les Millandes.

Vintage Notes

  • 2024: Domaine Georges Noëllat added a new premier cru here (les Monts Luisants); Gilman called the 2024 vintage “clearly the finest yet” from that parcel (94 pts, 2036–2085).
